The Geophysics program at NMSU has been phased out because Dr. Ni and Dr. Hearn have retired. We no longer accept applications from graduate students interest in Geophysics. We no longer teach Geophysics courses.
Dr. James Ni and Dr. Thomas Hearn have retired, but continue to work on many projects with us. They have been working on data from field projects in Tibet and Northeast China and are interested in the uplift of the Tibetan plateau. Another field project is due to start up in Thailand in 2022. There the structure of the Indian slab subducting beneath SE Asia will be studied along with its relationship with Tibet. Hearn is also involved with studies of seismic amplitude decay.
